It's time to learn how to be polite. We know how to say that we like something, and that we'd like to have something, but we need to be able to ask nicely.

Da ew genam … I like …

Da ew genam dehen rew. I like ice cream.

My a venja cawas … I'd like to have …

My a venja cawas tabm tesen.

I'd like to have a bit of cake.

Here's how can you ask someone what they would like.

Pandra venjes ta cawas? What would you like to have?

There are two main ways of saying "please".

They are pyjy (before a request) and

mar pleg (after a request)

So, you if you are asked what you would like to have, you could say

Pyjy, my a venja cawas dehen rew.

Please, I'd like to have some ice cream.

My a venja cawas tabm tesen, mar pleg.

I'd like to have a bit of cake, please.

What if you are not asked what you want?

You could say

Aljama cawas nebes boos, mar pleg?

Could I have some food, please?

Pyjy, gwag o vy!

Please, I'm hungry!

We are so polite, there are lots of ways to say "Thank you". Here are a few.

To family or friend, you can say Meur ras dhis.

To someone you don't know so well, Merastawhei.

Gramassy a hedna. means "Thank you for that."

Saying Meur ras on its own is a bit like saying "Thanks" or "Ta" in English!

Another polite thing you need to know is how to say "Sorry!" Perhaps you tread on someone's toe, or drop something.

Edrek!

Ma edrek genam.

Drog ew genam.

You might need to say "Excuse me!" or "Pardon me!" to get past someone (or if you make a rude noise).

Pyjy gevyans! or Pe'jy gaffans!

A lot of people say "Gav dhebm!"
