We know how to say “there is” and “there are”.

We know how to say “I have” and “Do you have?”

We know how to say “I want” and “I would like”.

We know how to say “I went” and “I bought”.


Let's look at some questions that might need answers.


For “Is there any …?” or “Are there any …?” use “Eus …?”

e.g. Eus avalow? Are there any apples?

Eus keus? Is there any cheese?


There is a traditional rhyme:

Eus keus? Eus po nag eus?

Is there any cheese? Is there or isn't there?

Mars eus keus, dro keus.

If there is cheese, bring cheese.

Po nag eus keus, dro peth eus.

If there isn't any cheese, bring what there is.

To ask where something is: “Pe le ma …?” or “Pe le ma'n …?”


e.g. Pe le ma keus? Where is there any cheese? (general)

Pe le ma'n keus? Where is the cheese? (more specific)

Ma keus e'n varhas. There's cheese in the market.

Ma'n keus e'n copart. The cheese is in the cupboard.


You would like to buy something:

e.g. My a venja perna lever nowydh. I'd like to buy a new book.

Nei a vedn perna dilhas hav. We want to buy summer clothes.


Ask where to buy it using “Pe le …?” “What place …?”

e.g. Pe le ellama perna …? Where can I buy …?

Pe le ellama perna levrow? Where can I buy books?

Chy ell perna levrow en shoppa levrow.

You can buy books in a bookshop.

Pe le ellen nei perna …? Where can we buy …?

Pe le ellen nei perna dilhas hav?

Where can we buy summer clothes?

Whei ell perna dilhas hav en shoppa dilhas po gorvarhas.

You can buy summer clothes in a clothes shop or a supermarket.

I went to the shops and bought apples. To say what you bought, you can use (in simple past tense) My a bernas … I bought … e.g. My a bernas avalow. I bought apples. My a bernas avalow en shoppa. I bought apples in a shop.   In At Home With Cornish 62, we saw two ways of asking  to have something or to do something: Pejy, my a venja cawas … Please, I'd like to have … My a vedn mos dhe'n … I want to go to the ... e.g. Pejy, my a venja cawas dehen rew. Please, I would like to have an ice cream. e.g. My a vedn mos dhe'n treth. I want to go to the beach. Obviously, “ venja ” is more polite than “ vedn ”. “ vedn ” can also be used for the future, e.g. My a vedn mos dhe'n milva. I will go to the zoo. You can use many verbs  with  venja and  vedn - not just  cawas  and  mos .  Let's look at some alternatives to mos ,  which usually need some sort   of action or place.  They do not take an object. “ bys en ” is a good way of saying “ to ” a place. kerdhes walk pònya run lebmel jump
