At Home With Cornish 13

Let's look at numbers so that you can play games with dice.

onan, dew, trei, pajar, pemp, whegh

Of course, if you throw two dice at once, if you are playing "Shut the Box", you need to be able to add up to more, so

7 seyth

8 eth

9 naw

10 deg

11 üdnek

12 dewdhek

Here are some number combinations and what you can say.

Ha means and or plus

Pajar ha pemp ew naw. 4 and 5 are 9

Onan ha whegh ew seyth. 1 and 6 are 7

Dew ha trei ew pemp. 2 and 3 are 5

If you win, you can triumphantly say:

My a waynyas! I won!

You need the numbers 1 to 10 if you play cards, but there are 13 cards in a suit, so there are 3 extras.

If you want to ask "How many?" ("lies" means "many"

you can say "Pe lies?" (What many?).

This is sometimes shortened to "Pes?"

You can use either.

You also need "eus?" meaning "are there?"
